About

I teach social/cultural anthropology at Halle University.
My current research deals with farmers' suicides in India. I want to look at the issue from a political anthropological perspective. That means I am particularly interested in the state's reaction to farmers' suicide. Hence my research interests: peasants, agriculture, globalization of agriculture, political ecology, anth of the state, neoliberal states, development project, state/NGOs/civil society, Biopolitics/Necropolitics, suicide studies, suicides as public events, suicide as protest
Regionally I work in South India: Tamil Nadu and Kerala
